Oh, Greece * _ * What a place! We wrote this post from the same Athens that, although it is not an island, has corners that reminded us of the wonderful (and unexpected) cruise that we lived a few years ago. And as one of the questions you ask us most about this country is precisely “¿which are the most beautiful greek islands? ” We have thought about writing this article where we are going to tell you which are our favorites. Yes, to taste the colors, but hey, we assure you that they are beautiful milk!

But before…

… Let us tell you something: Greece has about 6,000 islands, flipante. Let's say there are two main groups of islands:

  1. The Ionian Islands, are those found in the Ionian Sea, in the northwestern part of mainland and mainland Greece. Some of its most famous islands are Corfu, Paxos, Lefkada, Ithaca, Cephalonia, Kythira and Zante.
  2. Aegean Islands, are the most numerous. Within this immense group (it has about 5,000 islands!) There are different sub-groups: the Cyclades Islands (where for example are Santorini, Paros or Mykonos), the Dodecanese archipelago (Rhodes, Kos, Tilos ...), the Saronic Islands (closest to Athens), the island of Crete, the North Aegean Islands, the Sporades Islands of the north ...

Come on ... it is clear that if something is not missing in Greece, they are islands 😉

And now, here are the ones for us are 7 most beautiful islands of Greece:

A classic that never fails, Santorini has to lead this post simply because it is beautiful to rage and has one of the best sunsets in the world! And obviously you can't miss the two most photographed churches in Greece: Agios Spyridonas and Anastaseos, with their famous blue domes. There is only one negative thing: it is usually also the Greek island most frequented by travelers from all over the world, so if you do not want to be burdened we recommend you stay on the island for at least 3 days.

Walking through its steep streets will produce micro-crushes at every step, I just notice. Remembering its picturesque little shops, its little white houses, its little squares full of flowers, its churches crowned with blue domes ... we want to return right now (and this time in a villa with infinity pool overlooking the sea. Let me dream * _ *)

There are not many people who decide to visit Rhodes, but we assure you that once you set foot on this island, you will not regret having crossed half the Mediterranean Sea to reach it. And is that Rhodes is full of attractions, boasts a exciting story and has little towns very cute (in fact one of the most famous is called Cute hehe) and beaches where you can take a dip (almost) alone.

Although his greatest treasure is his homonymous city, where formerly stood the famous Colossus of Rhodes that was about 30 meters high. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and it is surprising, the center is a madness of alleys, palaces and buildings that will move you to another era. It is undoubtedly one of the best Greek islands.

Typical Greek white houses, blue waters and a good dose of mythology: that is the cover letter of Crete, one of the most famous Greek islands in the world (and one of the largest). Do not make the mistake of staying in Heraklion, the best of Crete is a few km from its capital. An excellent idea is to rent a motorcycle and explore its corners. The top stop? The Elafonisi beach, that with its pink sand and transparent waters well worth the trip.

And as for the Knossos Palace what to say? It is without a doubt one of the star attractions of Crete. Although after informing us a little we decided not to go: according to what we read the entrance is quite expensive for what is left standing, so if you are not passionate about mythology and / or archeology, maybe you can use time and money in discovering other charms of the island.

Corfu has a Venetian soul and a Greek heart, an overwhelming personality and amazing places that will make you consider leaving everything and moving to this peculiar island. We only visit the Corfu city, and yet we liked it so much that we do not see the time to return to explore it further. Corfu, apparently, is not only one of the most beautiful islands in Greece, it is also one of the most interesting, where beauty and history blend perfectly. And if you're a beachman, write these names: Canal d'Amour, Paleokastritsa and Glyfada... To which more cool.

→ More info: here are a few ideas of things to do in the city of Corfu, and here is a post from our friend Eviña who toured the island for 3 days.
