Day 6: Kauro Coast Top 10 Holiday Park - Bayly's Beach - How to go to the Coromandel Peninsula: Thames

Go to the Coromandel Peninsula, one of the essential places to see in New Zealand, is our goal today, after yesterday we extended it a little more than usual, finishing the route through the places to see in Northland that we had marked for that day of the trip to New Zealand.

Knowing that today we have a slightly quieter day, in which go to the Coromandel Peninsula It will take us practically all day, we decided to take things with a little more calm, taking the opportunity to work a couple of hours in the morning and after breakfast and leave our Jucy motorhome in New Zealand ready, start today.
Remember that if you are interested in making a trip of this type, we recommend you look at the Motorhome Republic page where you can see all the available options, prices and make the reservation directly.

Today's journey to go to the Coromandel PeninsulaIt includes part of the route that we made on the first day of the trip, after the flight to New Zealand, which led us to visit Cape Reinga, since the Coromandel Peninsula is practically next to the route we did for the places we see in Auckland

As we mentioned earlier today, it will be almost entirely road, but to make it a bit more interesting, although the landscapes in New Zealand are impressive and just because of that you have justified any road trip, for any kilometers, We have decided to make a couple of stops, Bayly's Beach being the first one, just 30 kilometers and 30 minutes driving from Kauro Coast Top 10 Holiday Park, our accommodation in Northland last night.

Keep in mind that at this stage of the New Zealand in a motorhome, if you think it is interesting, you could perfectly include the visit to Trounson Kauri Park, which we did not do yesterday due to lack of time, since it is a few kilometers from the campsite where We have stayed.

Bayly's beach

This beach, also known as a road, is located on a strip of 100 kilometers of coastline, right next to a small town, and although we do not believe it is a must in New Zealand, it is a good option to stretch your legs and walk for a while on a beach road, much less crowded than the famous 90 Mile Beach we visited yesterday.

Bayly's beach

As was the case with the previous one, you can also access this beach through several accesses, although we recommend you do it through Ocean View Terrace, which is one of the most attractive points and also easier to access with a motorhome.

It's 11 o'clock when we finish the visit to Bailey's Beach making way to Thames, which will be our gateway to the Coromandel Peninsula and also the area where we will sleep tonight.
Taking into account that right now we are separated 300 kilometers and about 5 hours away, we make this journey with peace of mind, making stops to rest, stretch our legs and eat, for when it is 5 in the afternoon, reach Thames, where we take advantage to make a stop and refill the fridge for the next few days in a Pak'n Save supermarket and also refill the stomach of the motorhome, taking advantage of the fact that in this town there are several gas stations.

Thames

Considered by many as the gateway to the Coromandel Peninsula, if you are making the route from the north of the island like us, it is the perfect area to stay at night, since they have several free areas with stunning views .
Like the rest of New Zealand locations, Thames is located around the main road, where you can see some of the 19th century buildings that were built during the gold rush.

After this technical stop and taking into account that, as we said before in this piece of coastline, there are some of the most scenic free campsites in New Zealand, we begin our special journey in search of one in which there are still free spaces.
This is something to keep in mind since these spaces usually have limited places, which you can see in the Campermate application or in the cartels in the area. Normally, travelers usually arrive early in the afternoon, so if you arrive after 5pm, it is likely that there is no place left to put the motorhome.

Mata Point Reserve

We started touring the ones we have indicated in Campermate, there are about 5-6 in a strip of 15 kilometers and at the end, when it is 6 pm, we arrive at Te Mata Point Reserve, which in addition to being the most beautiful of all those we have seen so far, it is at this time of the afternoon alone, so we have the great luck to enjoy an evening and an unforgettable dinner in front of Thames Fjord, which we are sure, we will never forget.

Sunset at Te Mata Point Reserve

And so another day ends in New Zealand, enjoying an incredible spectacle of nature in the form of a starry sky that keeps us for hours outside the motorhome, waiting for you to spend the hours for tomorrow, touring a new destination, the Coromandel Peninsula.

We leave you the map of the route we have followed today until we reach the Coromandel Peninsula through Bayly's Beach and Thames, until we reach Te Mata Point Reserve, one of the most incredible places to sleep in New Zealand.
